First-Aid Kit Essentials
A well-stocked kit should include:
- Wound wash/antiseptic wipes for minor cuts and scrapes.
- Sterile gauze pads and vet wrap to apply pressure and protect wounds.
- Tweezers to remove splinters or ticks.
- A digital thermometer to check their temperature (a whippet’s normal temperature is 100.5∘F−102.5∘F or 38∘C−39.2∘C).
- Dog-specific pain relief, as directed by your vet. Never give your whippet human pain medication.
- A muzzle for safety if your dog is in pain and might snap.
- A pocket size tube of tube of Pro-Kolin (pet pro-biotic) for a quick tummy fix.
Being prepared for minor emergencies allows you to handle them calmly and effectively. And remember, for anything serious, contact your vet immediately.
